Stock Tips: Calibrate Good Times… C’mon!
August 12, 2010 : Written by jonathan : Comments (1)
Here is one we hear all too often: “But they looked great on my monitor!”
It all starts with capture of course, but don’t underestimate the importance of having a calibrated monitor. Your standard flat panel monitor looks very pretty out of the box, but will almost always be misleading when judging true color and brightness in your images.
We highly recommend purchasing calibration software to get optimal print results. You may be asking yourself, “What is he talking about and why should I calibrate my monitor?” Well, here is a simple answer: when viewing image files on your monitor, they almost always look different from the same image you get printed. If you properly calibrate your monitor, what you see on your screen is what you’ll get when you order your prints!
If you are interested in calibrating your monitor, we recommend the X-Rite Eye One Color Calibrator. Google it and find the best price! We have no affiliation with X-Rite ;), but maybe we should get some royalties! For more information on this subject, check out this link. You can always contact our customer service department and request our ICC profile too. With the ICC profile, you’ll have the ability to soft proof and find the perfect balance of color and density. If you need assistance getting started, we’ll be happy to help you through the entire process.
We also highly recommend ordering our “Evaluation Prints.” This is the perfect way to get acquainted with NPL, while making an informed decision with the print results. Whether you calibrate your monitor or not, it’s still a great idea to order the Evaluation Prints.
Ordering evaluation prints is very simple. Check it out:
1. Choose 5 of YOUR images for evaluation – we recommend different lighting situations and different subjects.
2. Order in our ROES software
3. The prints are FREE - Shipping is only $7What you get:
(20) 8×10 prints in total:
(10) Lustre prints - with and without color corrections
(10) Metallic prints - with and without color correctionsOnce you receive the Evaluation Prints, compare the uncorrected lustre print with what you see on your monitor and determine whether you want to use software to calibrate, manually adjust to match the uncorrected print, or just let us do the work!
Next time you order, they will look as good as they did on your monitor! Happy shooting NPL’ers
Oh yeah, sorry I got that song stuck in your head!
